Let’s talk about your mental health

This workshop is intended as a guide. It is not to be seen as any form of diagnosis, individual guidance or treatment advice

We will look at the impact of the changes you have just made, and how they can impact on you.

You are now living independently, very often for the first time in your life. You can make all your own decisions. You have control. You may have chosen your university in part because it is a long way from home. It adds to the feeling of being a student.

1 in 4 university students experience mental health difficulties each year

Please look out for:

  • Changes in your appetite. Lack of appetite or overeating
  • Lack of motivation. It becomes more of an effort to do things, and later to do even small things. Going out with friends is too much of an effort
  • Problems with sleep. Cannot sleep or often waking up still tired
  • Wanting to stay away from other people.
  • Alcohol misuse or drug use.
  • Mood swings

This is not intended to be a complete list of symptoms, or confirmation of a particular problem. The aim is simply to make you more aware of a possible problem at an earlier stage.

Every university has a team has a comprehensive support team in

place, and they are very well equipped to help and support you
